Cheryl L. Thompson, 54, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Golden Living Center-Parkplace. Memorial services will be on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jack Gillam and Vicar Josh Leigeber will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 A.M. at the church. Mrs. Thompson’s body was cremated and there will be no visitation. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Thompson was born on April 26, 1955 in Sidney, Nebraska to Wayne and Joyce (Sunderman) Stearley. Survivors of the immediate family include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Robert (Mary) Thompson, Richard (Karla) Thompson, and Greg (Jen) Thompson all of Grand Island, and Franklin Thompson of Lincoln; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gracia (Randy) Whitehead of Lexington, Oklahoma, and Charleen Thompson of Hastings; four sisters, Susan Hunter of Omaha, her twin sister, Carol Moeller, of Grand Island, Brenda LaCost of Madison, Wisconsin, and Peggy (Nathan) Felton of Dumfries, Virginia; her step-mother, Helen Stearley, of Grand Island; three step brothers, Charlie (Cristy) Miller of Lincoln, Gary Stearley of Grand Island, and Ronnie (Rose) Miller of Grand Island; and one step-sister, Deb (Bob) Parker of Grand Island. Additional survivors include 14 grandchildren. Mrs. Thompson was raised in Sidney until age 6 and then moved to Grand Island. She attended Trinity Lutheran School and Grand Island Senior High. She married Lloyd Thompson in 1971 in Grand Island. She later married Ronald Thompson in 1979 in Grand Island. Mrs. Thompson was employed at Swift and Company for a number of years. She retired from Swift due to ill health, and was then employed as a cook at Village Inn in Hastings. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, gardening, and camping. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Sidney, and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sisters, and one step-sister, Wanda Miller. Memorials are suggested to the family.
