Max J. Rauert Jr. 85, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Tiffany Square Care Center. Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark Maresh will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mr. Rauert was born on June 2, 1925 in Grand Island to Max and Laura (Loescher) Rauert Sr. Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters and one son-in-law, Connie Lewandowski of Grand Island, and Deb (Doug) Nannen of Lincoln; one sister, Dorothy Mangelsen of Salinas, California. Additional survivors include 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Rauert received his education at District #7 West north of Grand Island. After his education he worked on the family farm. He was then employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. He married Irene Schnase of July 15, 1946. Mr. Rauert worked at and then Supersweet Feeds in Grand Island for over 10 years. His real passion was farming, and he farmed north of Grand Island for many years. Mr. Rauert’s family was one of the first families to settle in Hall County. He married Virginia Fagan on November 16, 1985 in Grand Island. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball. He also enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with his many friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Eagles Club, and the Platte-Dautsche. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Irene in 1983; one son, David Max Rauert in 2002; one brother Edward; and an infant sister. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
