Vendelena Rapp, 92, of South Gate California, formerly of Ashton, Nebraska, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at an assisted care home in South Gate. Funeral services will be on Friday, at 10:00 A.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Francis Curran will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:30 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Rapp was born on July 22, 1914 near Ashton, Nebraska to Anton and Frances (Badura) Stobbe. Survivors of the immediate family include two sisters and one brother-in-law, Vivian Smith of South Gate, California, and Betty & Eugene Grudzinski of Ashton. Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rapp received her education in country schools. After the 8t grade, she did house work and also worked in Badura’s store in Ashton. In 1940, she moved to Van Nys, California where she was employed as a housekeeper and a nanny. In 1941, she began working for the Owens Illinois Glass Company in Vernon, California. She retired after 30 years of service. She married Carl Rapp on September 8, 1962 in Maywood, California. Mr. & Mrs. Rapp had a motor home and enjoyed traveling. Mr. Rapp died in 1990. In 2003, she moved into an assisted care facility in South Gate. She was a member of the St. Helen’s Catholic Church in South Gate. Mrs. Rapp enjoyed working in her yard. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Clix, Arnold, Hubert, John, and Roman Stobbe, and by one sister, Rita Hoxie. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.
