Basil Neal 'Bud' Hoglund, 80, of Grand Island, died Friday, November 26, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney following a stroke. He was surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Randy Fett will officiate.
Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Mr. Hoglund was born on June 6, 1930 in Hasty, Minnesota to Oscar and Minnie (Swanberg) Hoglund. He grew up in a large family with nine siblings. He often spoke of the many memories made while growing up on the farm.
Survivors include his wife Harriet of Grand Island; five children Cindy and Denny O'Connell of Ballwin, Missouri, David and Renee Hoglund of Hastings, Nancy and Jeff Welniak of Ord, Brian and Jean Hoglund of Northville, Michigan, and Heidi Hoglund and friend Chris Wallman of Lincoln; one sister, Clarice O'Conner of Monticello, Minnesota; and one brother, Byron Hoglund of Monticello, Minnesota.
Additional survivors include 15 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Drew and Bridget O'Connell; Bethany and Brandon Stegman; Ryan and Sara Hoglund; Chelsea Hoglund and Ross Hoglund; Mitch, Todd, Brad, and Allison Welniak; Max, Grace, Ella and Sophia Hoglund; and two great-grandchildren, Quynn Hoglund, and Ann Stegman.
Bud graduated from high school in Monticello Minnesota in 1948. He then attended Minneapolis Business College for two years until he was hired at Nash-Finch Company.
Mr. Hoglund served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War in Germany.
He then returned to Nash Finch in Minneapolis where he held a variety of sales, operations and managerial positions. He worked in both Hastings and Grand Island where he completed a career of 43 years before retiring in 1993.
Bud and Harriet Lanz were married on May 27, 1955 in Elk River, Minnesota. His family was his number one priority. Bud enjoyed a good joke, a good bargain, playing cards, gardening, yard work and most of all, his grandchildren.
