Obituary

Betty Schwieger, 92, of Grand Island died Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.

Betty was born April 17, 1923, in Grand Island to William (Roy) and Beulah (Stout) Hare.She graduated from GI Senior High in 1941, and was married to Norval (Kirk) Schwieger on July 9, 1941.Betty was employed at Fairacres Dairy from 1953 until 1980, and at Berkley Pump for 10 years.

Betty was known for her delicious homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and decorating nearly 200 wedding cakes.She was an avid bowler for over 50 years and secretary of two Senior Bowling Leagues for 25 years. She was a member of the 600 Club, attended NWBA Tournaments for 44 years, and USBC Championship Tournaments for 25 years.Betty was inducted into the GIWBA Hall of Fame in 2003.Betty and Kirk were often called the most beautiful dancers at the Platte-Duetsche, Liederkranz, Eagles, or wherever a big band was playing.


Survivors include daughters:DeAnn (Jim) Schendt of Ainsworth NE, Sheryl (Dave) Herman of Missouri Valley IA; grandchildren:Douglas Schendt, Jami (Benny) Burdick, Brenda (Mike) Winkelmann, Bruce (Kim) Schendt, Kristine (Christopher) Myers, Mark Schendt, Scott (Jodi) Schendt; 15 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; brother: Russell (Louise) Hare of Henderson NV, sister-in-law:Opal Hare of Boise ID; along with numerous nieces, nephews and an abundance of friends.
Betty was welcomed into heaven by her parents, husband: Kirk, son: Kirk (Butch), brother: Donald Hare, sister: Marjorie Donigan, and nephews: Roy Hare and Jay Hare.

Betty Schwieger, 92, of Grand Island died Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Edgar Schambach officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-5 pm Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice. Online condolences may be directed to www.livson.com.
