Obituary

Beverly J. Velene, 71 of Grand Island passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at CHI St. Francis Medical Center.

Beverly was born December 10, 1945 in Holdrege, NE to Paul and Dorothy (Schneider) Velene.

She grew up in Holdrege watching her parents work in their family based nursing care home. While growing up she loved spending time with her family and friends at the family's cabin at Johnson Lake during the Summer.

She graduated from Holdrege High School in 1964. Beverly moved to Grand Island and worked at the Army Ammunition Plant, earning a very good wage for a difficult job as a young woman during that time period.

Beverly loved to entertain both in her work and personal life, which she planned to a tee. She therefore worked in hospitality for many years, including management of the Holiday Inn lounge, which she took great pride in expanding entertainment and libations for. She also attended Central Community College mid-life, completing a program in business.

Beverly looked after her elderly aunt, her mother, and her significant other Edmund Miller for years, making sure they had the best of care during each of their end of life stages. Despite struggling with her own chronic health conditions later in life, her will remained as strong as ever, and she was a force to be reckoned with. Her strong constitution gained respect at Tiffany Square where she stayed, as well as winning over several friends, both staff and residents alike. We will all miss this about "Bevie".

Left to cherish her memory are her dog Sugar; and many friends, neighbors, and family.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; aunt; her significant other; and her two dogs J.B. and Precious.

Per Bev's wishes, cremation was performed, with inurnment to take place in warmer weather at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be made at www.livson.com.
