William "Bill" Slatter, 72, of Grand Island died Monday, February 2, 2015 at CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Bill Slatter was born on March 3, 1942 in Kearney, NE to father Bernard Slatter mother Jeanne (Lentz) Slatter. He grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High school where he was active in many sports programs. Bill married Marla Fisher on July 8, 1972. Bill and Marla lived in Gibbon, NE, and later moved to Grand Island. Bill proudly served in the United States Army with time served in Vietnam. Bill's time of service in the Army was from July 1960 to June 1965. Bill Had 3 children daughter Rhonda Slatter Shafer, son Tad Slatter, and son Matthew Slatter. Bill has 2 grandchildren Zachary Shafer and Reagan Slatter.
Bill was an active member of the community being involved in running the 4th of July fireworks show at the Nebraska Veteran's Home. He was also deeply involved in 4H all across Nebraska and South Dakota, and was a troop leader for Boy Scout troop 120 in Grand Island. Bill showed rabbits across the central United States with the ARBA. Bill retired after 20+ years of service with the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island.
Bill is survived by his first wife Patty Welch and current wife Marla Slatter; daughter: Rhonda Slatter Shafer and her son: Zachery; sons: Tad Slatter and wife Nicole Slatter with daughter Reagan, Matthew Slatter and wife Shelly Slatter.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Jeanne Slatter and brother Glen Slatter.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Livingston Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10 am Saturday until service time.
