Obituary

Carol Ann (Loskill) Smith, 79,  of Grand Island died, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Edgewood Vista Memory Care in Grand Island, NE.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am Monday, August 18th at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Reverend Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Sunday with a 7 pm scripture wake service at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park.
She was born November 20, 1934 to George and Eva (Hemberger) Loskill at Assumption, NE.  She grew up on a farm near Assumption, where she attended school.  She worked in Hastings at Mode 'O' Day for 11 years.  She then attended Kearney Practical School of Nursing graduating in 1964.  She worked in Kearney for Dr. Richards from 1964 until 1970.  She then worked as a surgical nurse at St. Francis Hospital until retirement in 1997.  On July 16, 1982 she married Gary L. Smith at St. Mary's Cathedral.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert Loskill and Richard Loskill; sisters, Bernadette Dempewolf, Catherine Parr, Florence Pantenburg, Alice Trausch, Agnes Kolbet and Mary Kimminau.
She is survived by her husband Gary, her Step-Son, Barry (Melody) Smith and Step-daughter Brenda (Richard) Esquitin. Step-Grandchildren are: Crystal Smith and fiancé Ryan Nuss; Joshua Smith and fiancé Katelin Frank; Rachel Esquitin and significant other Lucas McDonald; Gabrielle Esquitin; Step-Great Grandchildren are: Jakobi Smith; Harper McDonald and Hendrix McDonald.  She is also survived by one sister Dorothy Theisen, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Carol Ann was loving and faithful with a quick wit.  As a child she learned to play the piano by ear.  She later took piano and accordion lessons and became proficient in both instruments.  As a young woman she took many trips around the United States as well as Europe.  She enjoyed gambling both on the ponies and at the casinos.  She loved to take bus trips with her sisters to the boats in Omaha.  Music however was always her first love and delighted in playing for her family and friends.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral for Masses.
