Obituary

Catherine B. "Pat" O'Connor, 80 of Greeley, Nebraska died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at home.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 10:30 am Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. Father Sidney Bruggeman will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday at the church with a rosary service at 4 pm and 7 pm. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Greeley Rescue Squad.
Mrs. O'Connor was born on July 21, 1930 in Grand Island to John J. and Catherine (Halpin) Burns. She grew up in Scotia and graduated from Scotia High School in 1949. Following high school she attended Bonnell Beauty Academy in Hastings.
She was united in marriage to James A. O'Connor on March 22, 1952 in Greeley. The couple lived in Washington, DC and Norfolk, VA while James served in the United States Navy. Following his discharge they made their home in Greeley where Pat owned and operated Pat's Beauty Nook for over 50 years.
Pat was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters, the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary and the Extension Club. She was a CCD teacher for many years and also helped create the Sacred Heart Centennial Book.
She enjoyed working with ceramics, painting china, watching baseball and working on genealogy. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially attending the athletic events of her children and grandchildren.
Pat is survived by her husband Jim of Greeley, a daughter Maureen (James) Fish of Kearney, a son Timothy (Catherine) O'Connor of Grand Island, a daughter Colleen (Tim) Donovan of Grand Island, a son Dan (Kim) O'Connor of Kearney, a son Jim (Denise) O'Connor of Broomfield, CO and a son Shawn (Coleen) O'Connor of Greeley.
She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a sister Wauneta McGowan of Grand Island, a sister Mary Rita Wagner of Scottsbluff and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a twin brother Bernard and a brother James Ira Burns.
