Clarance "Bud" August Henry Becker, 94, of Grand Island, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Tiffany Square Care Center.Funeral service will be 10:00 am Saturday, June 25 at the United Congregational Church with Pastor David Butz and Pastor Lonnie Logan officiating.Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel Friday, June 24.Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Clarance was born in rural Hall County to William and Elsie (Schwenk) Becker on Sept. 5, 1921.He was raised on the family farm northwest of Grand Island then moved east of Chapman in 1943.When he was 16, his parents gave him a used Chevy car for his birthday and encouraged him to attend high school.However, he wanted to stay home and help on the farm picking corn by hand.His first corn picker was a Case model followed by a Maline corn picker which shelled the corn.
After dating only 6 months, he married Betty Mae Richardson on Aug. 27, 1944.They lived on the family farm at Chapman.In 1974, Clarance and Betty moved to Grand Island and Clarance retired from farming in 1977.After Betty's death on March 25,2000, he married Eunice Stoltenborg, July 2, 2001.
Clarance was a member of the United Congregational Church, Masonic Friendship Lodge of Chapman since 1953, Platt Duetsche, Eagles Club, Eastern Star, a past President of the Odd Fellow, a past President of U.C.T., Elks and Three Links.
He enjoyed playing cards, traveling and most of all visiting with his friends.
Survivors include his sons, Ray (Jeanne) Becker of St. Edward, Lee Roy (Lorrena) Becker of Lincoln, daughter Shelly (Terry) Hooks of O'Brien, Oregon. Five Grandchildren, six Great Grandchildren, one niece and two nephews, and sister in law Cheri Richardson of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents: wives Betty and Eunice; sisters Nadine Sherard and Viola Knuth.
Memorials will go to the Paxton and St. Edward Volunteer Fire Departments and the United Congregational Church.
