Obituary

Clarence W. Werner, 91, of Grand Island, died Friday, June 7, 2013 at Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at at 10:30 am Tuesday, June 11th at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Reverend Jack Gillam will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the World War II Hero Flight or the donor's choice.
Clarence William Werner was born on August 10, 1921 in Grand Island to Henry W. and Anna Louise (Poehler) Werner. He grew up and received his education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1940.
He entered the United States Army in October of 1942 serving during World War II. Clarence was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in January 1946.
He was united in marriage to Virginia Frederking on August 2, 1946 in Omaha.  Clarence worked for Peter-Kiewit as a truck driver for over 20 years. He also worked at the Ordinance Plant for 8 years and the Grand Island Schools for five years. Clarence retired in February 1987.
Mr. Werner was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He was an avid hunter and also loved to travel.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Virginia of Grand Island, a son, Gary L. Werner and his wife Kay of Grand Island, a daughter, Connie Taylor and her husband Bruce of Kingwood, TX,  five grandchildren, Kellie (Steve) Satterly, Stacie Werner, Samantha (Ben) McCray and twin brothers, Michael and Mitchell Taylor, and two great granddaughters, Addison and Emmilynn Satterly.
Clarence is also survived a brother, Harold Werner and his wife Kay of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Opal Werner.
