Obituary

We regret to announce the passing of Cindi, surrounded by her loving family, following a difficult battle with cancer.

Born April  25, 1962 in Kearney, Nebraska to Maxine (Petet) and Gary Hohnholt, she grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and Grand Island, Nebraska, graduating high school from Northwest High School.

She packed a century of activities and memories into a life cut short.  She was married to Matt Preisendorf and created and ran an event boutique in Grand Island, Ne.  After having baby Shandra, she became a stay at home mom.  Following her first year, Shandra developed cancer and Cindi became her caregiver and advocate.  Following Shandra's passing at age 2, Cindi gave birth to a stillborn little boy.  She then had three precious girls, Kiley, and twins Becca and Breanne to whom she devoted her world.

She and Matt divorced in 2004. With little education to support herself, Cindi set a path to earn her Bachelors' Degree, and then her Masters' Degree to become a mental health therapist.  During that time she worked full-time, as Executive Director of Hope Harbor.  She was instrumental in the name change and in the purchase of the current location.

Prior to creating her company, Clearwater Counseling, PC, she provided consulting services with a number of non-profit agencies in the form of grant-writing and administration, as well as being an employed therapist.

Reconnecting with her first love, Brice McDowell, was one of the happiest miracles of her life.  They celebrated 10 years of marriage last October and have been on constant adventures in day-to-day life ever since.

Cindi was a champion of the underdog. She personally funded countless amenities for clients at Hope Harbor, as well as later for her clients.  She embodied compassion and taught so many how to love and accept differences in each other.

Cindi is preceded in death by her daughter Shandra, mother Maxine, and her grandparents.

She will be forever missed by her husband Brice McDowell, children Kiley Preisendorf,  Becca Preisendorf, and Breanne Preisendorf (Trevor Bradley); step-children Kalece Kinkade and son, Shea, Ryan McDowell, and Keely (Joel) Shadt and daughter, Ada; sisters Caryn Hohnholt, Cathie Hohnholt, and Candi Flavell, and brothers Steve (Penny) Hohnholt, Mike (Debby) Hohnholt, and Jeff (Marcy) Hohnholt.; and many friends. To her great joy, she became a grandmother to Benjamin Othello Bradley in December of last year. She loved her family fiercely until her last breath, and lives on in them
