Obituary

Dale J. Dey Ermand, 81, of Grand Island died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 10 am Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Reverend Jay Vetter will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 pm Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. According to his wishes, Mr. Dey Ermand was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the donor's choice.
Dale was born on November 15, 1931 at Grand Island to Leo D. and Ruth E. (Scott) Dey Ermand. He grew up and received his education in Grand Island.
He entered the United States Army on January 15, 1952, serving two tours in the Korean War and one tour in the Vietnam War. He also served in Thailand and Germany. For his honorable service he was awarded a Bronze Star, the Korean Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and the United Nations Service Medal. Dale retired from the Army on May 31, 1977. An incredibly hard worker, after his military retirement Dale spent the next ten years working for and retiring from Sperry New Holland.  He also worked for several other companies including Ditch Witch, Rainbow Bakery, Johnson Cashway, Monforts, The Platt Duetsche, Fonner Park, Iams and St. Francis Hospital just to name a few.
Mr. Dey Ermand was united in marriage to Rosalie "Rose" Ross on July 17, 1965 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. During his military career the couple made their home in Thailand and Germany before returning to the United States. Mrs. Dey Ermand preceded him in death on October 9, 2006.
Dale was a member of the Eagles, the Platt-Duetsche, and the American Legion and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Dale was well known in Grand Island for his garden. He sold his produce at the Farmer's Market and later out of his house to many residents in Grand Island and surrounding communities. He also enjoyed having a beer and visiting with his many friends and family. Most of all he loved spending time with his three grandchildren.
Survivors of the immediate family include his son, D.J. Dey Ermand and his wife Wendy of Omaha; his daughter, Janell Dey Ermand-Bowman and her husband Todd of Grand Island; three grandchildren, Logan and Lexi Dey Ermand, and Makenna Bowman.
He is also survived by his sister, E. Carrol Eveland of Grand Island.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Helen Perkins.
