Darlene Mae (Buller) Klingenberg Powell was born April 23, 1949 to Jacob H. and Sophia (Quiring) Buller in York, Nebraska. She passed away August 3rd, 2012, at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 63 years 4 months and 3 days.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time on Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Friesen West Cemetery. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family.
Darlene grew up living on a farm in both the Hampton and Aurora area. She attended Hampton Public School through the 4th grade and graduated from Aurora Public School in May 1967. She attended one year at Freeman Junior College in Freeman, South Dakota and also attended the nursing program at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized by Pastor Walter H. Dyck on May 29, 1966 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson, Nebraska.
On January 18, 1970 she was united in marriage to Russell L. Klingenberg at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson by Reverend Abe Krause. God blessed this union with one daughter, Dawn Marie.
On August 7, 1975 she was united in marriage to Frances Powell in Grand Island, Nebraska. God blessed this union with two sons; Daniel Frances and Jacob John. Darlene was residing in St. Paul, Nebraska until the time of her death.
Darlene loved spending time with her grandchildren, Jesse and Kati. She enjoyed their visits and was very proud of them.
Her hobbies included gardening, embroidering, quilting and spending time with her loyal canine companion, Amber. She had numerous sewing projects she loved working on but she was proud of the fact that when she was going through her recovery of her cancer treatments in 2009 she was putting together and quilting 30 baby quilts that she donated through Grace Mission here in Henderson to give to the children in Haiti after their earthquake. She also donated numerous baby quilts to the Red Cross in the St. Paul and Grand Island area. She also enjoyed working with the elderly either through being a nurses aide in the nursing home or sitting with them in their own personal homes.
Darlene was proceeded in death by her first husband, Russell Klingenberg, her father, Jacob H. Buller, her sister, Wanda Johnson, her mother in-law and father in-law, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her three children Dawn and her husband Pat of Ravenna, Dan and Jacob of St. Paul, and her two grandchildren, Jesse and Kati of Ravenna; mother Sophia Buller of Henderson; brothers and sisters Marvin Buller and his wife Pat of Henderson, Dianne Buller of Henderson, Ardell Buller of Sutton, Kristi and her husband Curt of McCool Junction, Paul Buller and his wife RaNee of York, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Darlene will greatly miss the friendship of Carmen and Mike Solko who helped her get through the good and the troubled times.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
