Obituary

Clarence Daryl Baxter, 90, of Grand Island passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.  Daryl was a lifelong resident of central Nebraska, he was born in the rural Dannebrog NE area on May 14, 1933 and lived on the family farm West of Grand Island his entire adult life.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church with Father Jeffrey Nelson officiating from 1-3pm. There will be no burial. The Family suggests no flowers be sent for the service. Memorials are suggested to The Special Olympics or Global Down Syndrome Foundation.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Daryl was a graduate of Grand Island Senior High, he served in the Army and was stationed in Austria at the end of the Korean War.  Daryl married Sallie Sundeen and they were wed for over 55 years until Sallie passed away in 2008.

Daryl and Sallie were the parents of 5 children, Mike of Grand Island, Steve (deceased), Scott (Sherri) of Dallas TX, Lisa of Denver CO, and Jeff (Sue) of Cedar Rapids IA.  He has 8 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Daryl also has one surviving sibling Donita (Joe) Cone of Cedar Rapids IA.

Daryl was an avid golfer he enjoyed his golf outings with his friends, and the special opportunities to play with his Children and Grandchildren.  Daryl and Sallie loved Husker football and the family has maintained their same season tickets for over 60 years.

Daryl was a natural born farmer and he loved the process of raising crops, tending to the animals and the perpetual wish for favorable weather.  He was very "handy" and could mend most anything with pliers and bailing wire.  Daryl's life journey started when rural living required fetching water from the creek, utilizing horses to work the fields and cold night runs to the outhouse.

Daryl loved his family and was friendly with anyone willing to chat.  He loved to go on a journey as long as that journey quickly led him back home.  His last journey is now complete.
