Dora Wiese, 98, of Grand Island died Monday, November 29, 2010 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Friday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Reverend Bill Pavuk will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Thursday with the family receiving friends from 5-7 pm at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Dora was born July 11, 1912 in rural Hall County to John and Clara (Heesch) Baasch. She was raised on the family farm and attended District 23 country school. While growing up she worked on the family farm, as well as the farms of relatives and neighbors.
She was united in marriage to Fred J. Wiese on September 2, 1930 in Grand Island. The couple honeymooned in Oregon and returned to make their home on a farm south of Alda. They raised 1500 chickens and produced eggs for the Holcomb Hatchery in Grand Island. Dora also worked at Clayton's in Grand Island and Maxine's Gift Shop at Interstate 80. Fred preceded Dora in death in October of 1986.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the Platte Duetsche Society, the Valley View Extension Club for over 54 years and was a 4-H Leader for over 11 years. Dora enjoyed dancing, gardening, raising pink roses, quilting and playing cards.
She is survived by a son Jack Wiese of Grand Island, a son Ronald (Ardis) Wiese of Doniphan, a daughter Joyce (Harold) Sheen of Kearney, a daughter Connie (C.B.) McQuistan of Fremont, eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a sister Esther Rosacker of Wood River.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson John Wiese, a brother Charles Baasch and a daughter-in-law Bea Wiese.
