Edith E. Jeratowski, 95, of Grand Island died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at CHI St. Francis Medical center in Grand Island.
Edith was born August 31, 1919 in Winside, NE to Walter and Leatha (Smith) Morrow. She grew up on several farms near O'Neill and graduated from high school there. She moved to Grand Island in 1942 to work at the ordinance plant. She was united in marriage to Leo Jeratowski in April 1945 in Grand Island, where they made their home. Upon Leo's untimely death in 1961, Edith raised her two children alone. She worked a variety of different jobs, such as waitress, daycare, and cook at Blessed Sacrament School. She maintained her home and beautiful yard until she joined the Bickford Cottage family in June 2013. She enjoyed the many activities and social events, as well as the residents and staff in the loving environment.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She attended the Generation Center every day for the last 20 years, and served as a volunteer there for many years. Edith enjoyed flowers, gardening, crafts, playing cards and Bingo. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
Survivors of the immediate family include one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Trudy Jeratowski of Casper, Wyoming; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Lustig of Denver, Colorado. Additional survivors include 2 grandchildren, Chris Pierce and Greg Lustig; 4 great-grandchildren, Erica, Madelyn, Taylor, and Justin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be 2 PM Monday, October 6, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Todd Philipsen and Father Tim Stoner will concelebrate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Monday at the church until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
