Obituary

Edmund "Ed" D. Gebers, 85, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island died Friday, November 16, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Jack Gillam will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home and 1-2 pm Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Gebers was born on February 4, 1927 in Nemaha County to Ernest W. and Adina (Oestmann) Gebers. He grew up on the family farm near Auburn and received his education at Hickory Grove School District 27.
He entered the United States Army on June 5, 1945 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on February 20, 1947.
Ed was united in marriage to Leona A. Dankert on November 30, 1952 at Hickory Grove Church near Auburn. The couple made their home in Omaha where Ed worked as a mechanic. They later moved to Grand Island where they opened Ed's Sinclair Station in 1958 and in 1965 added a wrecker service. The filling station closed in 1980 and Ed continued to own and operate Ed's Wrecker Service until 2004. Mrs. Gebers preceded him in death on September 12, 2004. In 2010 Ed moved to Lincoln to be closer to family.
Survivors of the immediate family include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Brian and Tena Gebers, Vaughn and Karen Gebers, all of Lincoln, Donald and Julie Gebers of Kansas City, and Curtis Gebers of Vancouver, WA; and a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Holtzen of Omaha.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jamie Gebers, Erich Gebers, Paul Gebers, Nathan Gebers, Michael Holtzen and Kyle Holtzen; a brother and sister-in-law, Erwin and Marty Gebers of Aurora, CO; two sisters, Lenora Fellers of Syracuse, NE and Leota Lenning of Chicago, IL.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was an usher, a former member of the Board of Trustees and drove the church bus. He was also a member of the Eagle's Club and the American Legion, as well as an ambassador for Brentwood Estates in Lincoln. Ed enjoyed bowling and visiting with family and friends.
Mr. Gebers was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Alvin Gebers and Arnold Gebers, and a sister, Luetta Kuhlman.
