Obituary

Edward "Sarg" Sargent, 77, of Grand Island died September 7, 2016 at CHI St. Francis Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Marty Egging will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 - 7 PM with a wake service at 7 PM at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Ed "Sarg" was born on March 7, 1939 in Ord, NE to Gordon and Izola (Coons) Sargent. He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1957. He then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University.

On September 29, 1962, he was united in marriage to Marlene (Schmaderer) in Stuart, NE. The couple lived in various places while Sarg was in the Army. They settled in Grand Island where they raised their family. Sarg worked doing road construction until he started working at New Holland, where he was employed for 30 plus years.

Sarg was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Saddle Club, Veterans' Club, and Legion Baseball board member. He enjoyed Husker football, Legion Baseball and doing all kinds of activities with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include: wife: Marlene Sargent of Grand Island; children: Jennifer (Raul) Santos of Grand Island, Mark (Paula) Sargent of Grand Island; grandchildren: Tara Liegl, Jacob Corrigan, Jesus Santos, Soriya Santos, Cody Sargent, Lisa Sargent, Dereck Fishler, Jacob Fishler, Jordan Fishler; ten great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: LaVonne Kulus, Karen (Bob) Baker, Doris (Kurt) Young, Pat (Bing) Ward, Gerald (Helen) Schmaderer, Maurice (Dorothy) Schmaderer, and Rich (Emmy) Schaderer.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother: Jack Sargent, Dick (Bunny) Sargent, brother-in-law: Ken Kulus; and in-laws: Alois (Francis) Schmaderer.
