Evelyn T. (Reher) Placzek, 98, of Grand Island died Friday, February 3, 2012 at Good Samaritan Village in Grand Island.Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Reverend Jack Gillam will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church Foundation, Heartland Lutheran High School Foundation or the donor's choice.Evelyn was born on February 3, 1914 in Ord, Nebraska to Adolph and Clara (Heyden) Stobbe. The family moved to a farm east of Grand Island when Evelyn was a child. She attended District 28 country school and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in May of 1931. She was united in marriage to Alfred Reher on September 11, 1939 in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island where Evelyn worked as an operator for Northwestern Bell. Mr. Reher preceded her in death on December 12, 1965. On October 6, 1967 she married Dennis Placzek in Kimball, Nebraska. Evelyn continued working at Northwestern Bell for over 30 years. She retired as a Chief Operator. Mr. Placzek preceded her in death on August 30, 1985.Evelyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she also belonged to the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Grand Island Women's Club, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and the Liederkranz. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge, Pinochle and Pitch, and also loved to dance.Survivors of the immediate family include three sons and daughters –in-law; Kevin and Dee Placzek of Grand Island, Denny and Amy Placzek of Kearney, and Robert "Bob" and Nancy Grinstead of Omaha.She is also survived by five grandchildren; Josh Placzek of Grand Island, Chase Placzek and his wife Heather of Kearney, Lydia Placzek of Brookings, SD, Tab Grinstead of Davenport, IA, and Shannon Welton and her husband Todd of Hastings; and two great grandchildren, Matt and Megan Welton of Hastings, and numerous nieces and nephews.Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands , Alfred Reher and Dennis Placzek, and three sisters.
