Obituary

George A. Sinner, 78, of Grand Island died Monday, January 2, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be at 10 am Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Reverend Matt Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in the Alda Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 pm Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 4-7.
Mr. Sinner was born on January 19, 1933 in Bailyville, Kansas to Howard and Bessie (Fisk) Sinner. He grew up in Loup City and Sherman County area, and always considered it his home. He graduated from Loup City High School.
George entered the United States Army on May 12, 1953 and served as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged on May 20, 1955.
He was united in marriage to Johnsie Saunders on November 7, 1954 in Rockingham, North Carolina. Following his discharge from the Army the couple moved to Alda, Nebraska and George joined the Grand Island Fire Department. He retired from the GIFD after 21 years as a firefighter. He also worked for 5 years for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant Fire Department. He later drove a truck for Luther Maddox Sand and Gravel.
George loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs. He also loved music and played the guitar and accordion. He always had a big garden of vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed carpentry things and woodworking as well.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Johnsie of Grand Island; two sons, Glenn A. Sinner of Grand Island and Ed D. Sinner of Lincoln; two sisters, Janice Schwieger of Grand Island and Anna Dice of Grand Island; three brothers, Marvin (Norma) Sinner of Grand Island, Jim (Janet) Sinner of Grand Island and Tom (Lupe) Sinner of Covina, CA; several nieces and nephews, including Trudy and James of North Carolina; and a brother-in-law, Boyce (Ann) Saunders of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Rita Fay Sinner and Pauline Fay Sinner, two brothers, Delmer and Darrel, a brother-in-law, Kenneth Schwieger, and a niece, Robyn Stromberg.
