Obituary

Glenna J. "Red" Kitten, 84, of Grand Island passed away August 20, 2018.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with The Reverend Martin Egging officiating. Visitation will be 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM Thursday with a rosary beginning at 6:30 PM. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.

She was born to Glenn and Hazel (Howe) McNichols at Guide Rock, NE and graduated from Guide Rock High School. After high school she attended Kearney State College and received her teaching certificate. She taught at rural schools in Nebraska.

On June 7, 1958 she married Vernon Kitten at Superior, NE. They farmed for 11 years in Nelson, NE. until moving to Superior, NE in 1969 where they managed the Legion Club until 1974. They moved to Hastings, NE in 1974 and owned and operated Katz Lounge. On June 1, 1980 the couple moved to Grand Island, NE and owned and operated Alibi Lounge. After selling the Alibi Lounge, Red worked many years at the Platt Duetsche.

Red previously belonged to the Eagle's Club, Does, Legion Auxillary, Saddle Club, and Platte Duetsche.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Randy) Smith, Lori (Brian) Henn; son, Brian (Anne) Kitten; grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Darren (Sarah) Smith, Morgan Henn, Madison Henn, Elijah Kitten; great-grandchildren, Sophia Smith, Gavin Smith, Aiden Smith, Maddox Smith; sister, Darlene Oglevie; brother, Steve McNichols; numerous family members; a good friend and partner in crime, Kay Rieken.

Glenna was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Hazel McNichols; husband, Vernon Kitten; son, Glenn E. Kitten; daughter, Mary E. Kitten; brother, Ron McNichols; sisters, Betty Fenimore, JoAnn Brehm, and Doris Ross.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Gateway Vista in Lincoln, NE. She will be remembered for her being quick with her wit, pinch, and tug on your shorts.
