Obituary

Harold M. Green, 64, of Grand Island, died Thursday, February 4, 2014, with his family at his side, at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburg, PA.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, February 11th at Third City Christian Church. Pastor Scott Jones will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 until service time at the church.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family.

Mr. Green was born on September 21, 1949 at Elwood, Indiana to Dirwood and Ina (Netherton) Green. He grew up in Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1967.
Following graduation he immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Harold served two tours of duty in Vietnam, including time as a Prisoner of War. He was honorably discharged on July 16, 1975 after nearly 9 years of service.
He was united in marriage to Rena Swadley on December 2, 1978 at Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Grand Island where they raised their three daughters. Harold and Rena owned and operated Audio Engineering/Nebraska Electronics for 15 years. He then went to work for the Grand Island Utilities Department, where he worked for over 20 years until retiring due to poor health. Harold also worked for NASA and the NSA throughout the years.
He was a member of Third City Christian Church and a lifetime member of the NRA. He loved fishing, listening to music, reading, working on computers and watching movies with his family.
Harold is survived by his wife, Rena Green of Grand Island; three daughters, Nicole Green of Grand Island, Amber and her husband Rick Myke of Brantford, Ontario and Sharon Green of Grand Island; a brother, Larry Green of Grand Island; a sister, Carol and her husband Gary Harmon of Tipton, IN; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Elaine Swadley of Grand Island; and a brother-in-law, David and his wife Debbie Swadley of Des Moines, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, David Harmon.
