Helen Margaret Koch, 92, of Grand Island died Sunday, July 6, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Celebration of Life will be at 11 am Thursday at Messiah Lutheran Church. Pastor Gary Harris will officiate. There will be a gathering for family and friends from 5-8 pm Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Koch was born on April 27, 1922 on the family farm northwest of Worms, to Henry and Meta (Wiegert) Meyer. She grew up on the family farm and received her education at Zion Lutheran School in Worms.
She was united in marriage to Herbert Koch on September 6, 1942 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The couple made their home on their farm northwest of Grand Island where they raised their two children, Jeff and Pamela. After raising her children Helen worked for Daylight Donuts. Mr. Koch preceded her in death on May 1, 2003.
Helen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Platt-Duetsche, the Liederkranz and the Elks. She loved playing cards, crocheting and sewing. Helen had a very active social life up until the time of her death.
She is survived by her son, Jeff Koch and his wife Sue of Grand Island; a daughter, Pamela Hellsten of Stillwater, MN; four grandsons, Brandon (Jennifer) Koch of Kearney, Brent (Nicole) Koch of Milwaukee, WI, Bryce (Secelia) Koch of Grand Island, and Conner Hellsten of Stillwater, MN.
Also surviving are four great grandsons, Kemper Koch, Kase Koch, Karston Koch and Nixon Koch; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Meyer of Central City and Delores (Dale) Hongsermeier of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, Elmer, Marvin, Robert and Earl Meyer, and two sisters, Edna Quandt and Norma Lorenzen.
