Irene was born February 3, 1929 in Loup City, Nebraska to Joseph and Katherine (Wandra) Woznick, one of five children. She was baptized, confirmed and married in the Catholic faith.

She graduated from Ravenna High School. After graduation she went to Lincoln, Nebraska with her sister Leona to work as a telephone operator. There she met and married Alvin Schwartz. The couple had two children, Gary and Linda.

On June 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to James (Jim) Bixenmann. To this union, four children were born, Kathi, Jim Jr., Dave and Mary. The couple lived and raised their family in Grand Island.

Irene's life was not easy, but she met all of life's challenges with faith in her Lord. Irene worked various jobs while raising her family. She worked for Rainbo Bakery, Dahlke Garbage Company and later in life at Grand Island Senior High in the cafeteria.

Irene enjoyed many things in her life; volunteering for her church, folding bulletins and working for the Catholic Thrift Store. She also enjoyed word search puzzles, listening to gospel and country music, her flowers and time spent traveling with the Sunshine Group. Irene's greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Gary & Eva Bixenmann of Grand Island, Kathi & Dave Kurz of Palmer, Jim & Cathy Bixenmann of Grand Island, Dave & Mary Bixenmann of Aurora, CO and Mary O'Brien of Denver, CO; a son-in-law, Bob Gruntorad of Frederick, CO; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Bixenmann, Jamie Gruntorad, Brad Gruntorad, Kelli Holland, Preston Kurz, Heith Bixenmann, Grant Bixenmann, Maggy Bixenmann, Michael Bixenmann and Kaylee O'Brien; 7 great grandchildren and one brother Gene Woznick of Scottsbluff.
