Obituary

Mrs. Janine (Jackie) Bayles, age 90 of Grand Island, died Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Wedgewood Care Center from complications resulting from a stroke. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at St. Leo's Catholic Church with Father Charles Torpey celebrating the mass. Interment will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 pm at St. Leo's Catholic Church with the family receiving friends from 5-8. Rosary service at 7 pm.
Mrs. Bayles was born October 7, 1921 in Eymoutiers, France to Henri and Melanie nee Sauviat Billard. She received her secondary education in France.
Janine married Darrell D. Bayles in 1947 in Paris, France. They returned to the United States and moved to Grand Island where they remained. Mrs. Bayles returned to college at Kearney State where she received her teaching degree in 1971. She taught French at Northwest High School for 12 years and then was offered the position of media specialist. She retired from Northwest in 1989, after 29 years of service.
She was a member of St. Leo's Parish and was a member of several education associations, including the AAUW, Retired Teachers' Association, and the YWCA.
Janine is survived by her two sons, Jean Claude (John) Dubois of Grand Island and Jacques Dubois and Kathy of Cedar Falls, Iowa; five grandchildren: Dominique Dubois and Cathy of Grand Island; Chantal Leonard, formerly of Grand Island; Bradley Dubois and Judy of Cedar Falls, IA.; Kevin Dubois and Barb of Georgia; and Nathalie Dubois of Cedar Falls, IA; eleven great grandchildren: Nathan, Rochelle (husband Will Henry), Megan, Joey; Jennifer, Julie, and Christopher Dubois; Adam and Taylor Dubois; Damon and Aubrey Leonard; and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Melanie and Henri Billard and husband, Darrell in 1992.
