Jerry Claussen, 75, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at The Grand Island Veterans' Home.
Jerry was born on November 13, 1938, in Grand Island to George and Mildred (Gieshenagen) Claussen. He grew up in Grand Island and attended Grand Island Senior High.
In December of 1956 he joined the Marine Corp and was honorably discharged December 1962. He married Georgia Walker in Grand Island in 1961. The couple made their home in Grand Island. Jerry was a bricklayer and draftsman and worked for his family's construction business, John Claussen and Sons, most of his life. Later he worked at Larry Barnes Construction until he retired in 2001.
He loved to hunt and fish; and was a gun enthusiast and member of Ducks Unlimited, NRA, and the Rifle range. He was also a past member of the Platt-Duetsche and the Saddle Club. Jerry loved animals and was known for feeding squirrels out of his hand. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids by taking them to the park or swimming.
Jerry is survived by children: Chris Claussen of Grand Island, Colleen Shaub of Ephrata, PA, Cindy Gustafson of Richmond Hill, GA; grandchildren: Tabra Claussen, Kayla Shaub, Trenton Gustafson; 4 great grandchildren; 1 niece; 5 nephews; brother: John Claussen of Phillips, NE; and sister: Janet Lockhart of Lincoln, NE
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, February 28, 2014 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. John Markworth will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 pm on Thursday with the family present. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
