Obituary

Jim Perkins, 65, of Grand Island, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 25, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 30, at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Rodney Mohler officiating.  A private family burial will be held at the Shickley, NE, Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Church of the Nazarene.
Jim was born on July 2, 1948, in Grand Island, to Francis and Ethel Perkins.  He grew up in Grand Island and completed his education here, including coursework at Central Community College.
He entered the US Navy after high school, serving a tour in Vietnam.  After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Jim worked at various jobs in Grand Island. However, the job most dear to his heart was serving as chaplain for Marketplace Ministries at Bickford Cottage in Grand Island.
Jim was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Grand Island and had recently earned his district preaching license for the Nazarene church.  He developed a close personal relationship with Christ and enjoyed sharing that faith with others through preaching and teaching Sunday School.  He truly cherished his church family.
Jim was united in marriage to Lisa London on June 23, 1995, and the couple lived in Grand Island.  Spending time with his siblings and grandchildren was important to him.  He enjoyed studying his Bible, having coffee with friends, and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa, two daughters and sons-in-law Tory and Jessica Kort of Grand Island, Dwayne and Dana Bennett of Longview, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Dustin and Corrie Deterding of Alexandria, Virginia, sister Patty Calvo, brother and sister-in-law Ken and Susie Perkins, sister-in-law Alberta Perkins, all of Grand Island, nine grandchildren Danielle, Desiree, Blake, Cade, Reagan, Ryker, Bryce, MaKayla, and Jordan, and a great-grandchild Kyler.
He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, two brothers Charles and Francis "Junior" Perkins, sister and brother-in-law Clarence and Maudie Walters, and brother in-law Tony Calvo, all of Grand Island.
