Joan Jean Herman, 85, of Grand Island passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Park Place Nursing Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at 12:30 PM prior to funeral service.

Joan was born on September 14, 1932, in Grand Island to Albert J. and Anna M. (Ritter) Herman, she grew up in Grand Island and attended Seedling Mile School. She lived with her mother and brother Donald all her life until her health declined, then moving into Park Place Nursing Care Center. She worked at Eldora Beauty Shop as a cleaning lady.

While living at Park Place she enjoyed many activities such as bingo, word puzzles, coloring, and writing letters with beautiful penmanship. She also loved cats, and had one as her own, taking care of African violets, watching the Lawrence Welk, and Grand Ol' Oprey shows. She had a gentle spirit and kind heart.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Donald Herman; sister, Lorretta Niemoth of Grand Island; a niece Carla (Dave) Nielson; and great nephews, Carl and Grant Nielson all of Archer, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother in law, Jerry Niemoth; and nieces Carrie (Niemoth) Jones, and infant Jennifer Herman.
