Obituary

Joan Socha, 62, of Grand Island, died Monday, June 1, 2015 at her home.

Joan was born October 29, 1952 to Bernard J. and Helen (Curran) Berberich in Spalding, NE. She attended Spalding Academy and graduated in 1970. She went on to attend Mt. Marty College in Yankton, SD.

On June 3, 1972, she was united in marriage to Ronald J. Socha at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The couple lived in Spalding until 1976 when they moved to Grand Island. Joan worked 22 years as food service director at the snack bar at Central Community College until April of 2015.

Joan was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She liked cooking, baking, watching movies, and spending time with her family.

Joan is survived by her husband: Ron of Grand Island; daughters: Julie (Mike) Reynolds of FL, Janet Socha of Grand Island, Katie (Lynn) Kinne of Aurora, NE, Mary Socha of Grand Island, Diane (Tim) Meyer of Grand Island, Michelle Socha of Grand Island; grandsons: Ryan Socha, Max Reynolds, Wyatt Socha, Dre' Socha, Dylan Socha, Cooper Kinne, Weston Kinne; granddaughters: Lexie Socha, Rachel Reynolds, Kailey Coghlan, Penelope Meyer, Kelsey Socha, Nora Meyer; siblings: Bill (Lois) Berberich of Destin, FL, Kay Brungardt of Norfolk, NE, Janet (Tom) Smyth of Arvada, CO, Mary Beth Berberich of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law: Arin Parrella; step-brothers: Father Jack Schlaf and Bill Schlaf; special friend: Mary Yearling.

She was preceded in death by her son: John Socha in 2002; her parents; and step-father: John (Bus) Schlaf.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 5, 2015 at Resurrection Catholic Church with Father Mike McDermott and Father Jack Schlaf concelebrating. Burial will follow at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 PM with a Rosary service at 6:00 PM at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
