Kenneth D. 'Kenny' Link, 78, of Grand Island died Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with Reverend Matt Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and Grand Island Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time at the funeral home.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family.
Kenny was born February 18, 1937 in Broken Bow, NE to Horatio G. and Beulah F. (Fields) Link.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Virginia; children and their spouses, Terry (and Nadine) Link of Malcolm, NE and Pamela (and Mark) Matulka of Olathe, KS.
Those also left to cherish his memory include three grandchildren, Peter (and Abby) Matulka, Jaime (and Joey) Carder, and Ashley (and Issac) Phillips; one great-grandchild, Kallie Kay Carder; sisters-in-law, Joyce Routson of Murrieta, CA and Joan Smith of Grand Island; nieces, nephews and numerous wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Eldon Link; two sisters, Letha Mae Province and Eleanor Wells; and brothers-in-law, Chester 'Gale' Smith, Richard Province, Lloyd Wells, John Routson and Verle Smith.
Kenny grew up and attended school in Broken Bow, NE graduating from Broken Bow High School, class of 1955.
He was united in marriage to Virginia L. Smith on August 1, 1958 in San Diego, CA. He entered the United States Army in 1958, serving in Augsburg, Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1960.
Kenny was employed by Southern Nebraska Public Power District for 36 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Kenny was an avid football and baseball sports fan supporting favorite teams as the Huskers and Baltimore Orioles. He loved family gatherings and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Kenny enjoyed fishing and gardening and was a familiar face at the card table at the Grand Generation Center. He relished his early morning coffee shop meetings with friends. He regularly participated in local horseshoe pitching competitions. Kenny will be remembered for his keen skills at math and number games like Sudoku as well as always having a trivia question to share. This year's highlight came when Kenny shared his beautiful blue spruce as the Grand Island Mayor's Christmas Tree.
