Obituary

Larry E. Green, 66, of Grand Island passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the Grand Island VA Medical Center.

A Flag Folding Ceremony will be held at 1:00 PM on June 23, 2018 at Grand Island City Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Bonzai Pizza Wave, Co. at 107 N. Walnut St., Grand Island, NE.

He was born January 31, 1952 in Tipton, Indiana to Dirwood and Ina (Netherton) Green. Larry was raised and received his education in Tipton, Indiana. At the age of 17 he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War from August 1969 to August 1973. He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant and on the 20th of January 1973 was selected and posted with the Joint Military Honor Cordon on the Capitol Grounds in Washington D.C. for the presidential inauguration. While in the Marines he took General Motors training to become a mechanic. He was Honorably Discharged in Arlington, Virginia in August of 1973.

Larry worked at Hamilton Chevrolet in Grand Island, and then Nebraska Truck Center for 22 years in Grand Island and North Platte as diesel mechanic and then manager. Larry was later self-employed and worked construction. He loved building things and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix.

His joys in life were his kids and grandkids. He was very proud of them. He said there was no better feeling than teaching my kids fishing and seeing that look in their eyes, no matter how small the fish. He organized fishing trips for over ten years to Canada with his fishing buddies.

Larry is survived by a his son, Jeff Green of Grand Island; daughters, Michelle Green, Melanie Gasik and husband Mike, and Jenifer and husband Darriell all of Arizona; sister, Carol and husband Gary Harmon of Tipton, Indiana; sister-in-law, Rena Green of Grand Island; grandchildren, Miranda, Bailey, Izaak, Stephanie, Jacob, and Esperanza.

He is also survived by his first wife, Linda, second wife, Marjean; very special friend, Linda; and bedside companions Kash and Sirus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harold; and a nephew, David
Harmon.

Larry was also very proud to be a United States Marine and serve his country. Semper Fi, Larry.
