Larry R. Hemmett, 90, of Grand Island, Nebraska, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026, at Tabitha at Prairie Commons in Grand Island.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island is entrusted with the arrangements.

A celebration of life will be held at Tabitha at Prairie Commons on March 28, 2026, from 1:00–3:00 PM. Wear your favorite Husker attire!

Larry was born in Kearney, Nebraska, and spent his high school years in Camanche, Iowa.

Larry graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Journalism.

He was stationed at Fort Lewis, where he wrote a sports column for the base newspaper.

He and Judy Keenan were married on December 27, 1960, in Kearney. Their life together included moves to California and Bellevue, Washington—where Larry was transferred for work with AMF—and later to Lincoln and ultimately Grand Island, Nebraska, where their three children, Jennifer, Michael, and Katie, were raised.

Larry was an avid golfer into his mid-70s, as well as a devoted woodworker who loved showing off his carvings. He enjoyed summers at the cabin on Johnson Lake, always had a story to tell, and delighted family and friends with his handiwork and humor. Larry and Judy were Nebraska Cornhusker football fans and season ticket holders for over twenty years.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Hemmett, and their three children: Jennifer, Michael, Katie, and 7 grandchildren.
