LaVern was born September 7, 1930 at rural Merrick County to William and Alma (Busboom) Stueven.

He was united in marriage to Delores Staal on March 28, 1954 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. After which the couple lived their entire lives in the Grand Island area. When he was first married he worked at the Sugar Factory, the Box Factory and for most of his life worked at the Nebraska State Department of Roads, later becoming a foreman until his retirement in 1992.

LaVern was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Platt Duetsche, Eagles Club, and the Izaak Walton League.

His passions were his family, fishing, camping, gardening, wood working, playing cards, polka music and once he moved to the nursing home, he loved bingo. What he cherished the most was being on the farm.

Survivors include his wife, Delores; sons, Rick Stueven and special friend Theresa Lawrence and her son Dylan Lawrence of Central City, Randy Stueven of Grand Island, and Mark (Erin) Stueven of Lincoln.

He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Crystal Bernard, Keith, Nick, Barrett and Kendall Stueven; 2 great-grandchildren, Will and Emily Bernard, and one great grandchild on the way; and his dear sister Joan (Don) Jensen of Las Lunas, NM.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
