Lavonne A. Shipman, 88, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Prairie Winds Assisted Living in Doniphan. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday July 9. 2016 at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Island with Pastor Bill Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7 PM Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel.
Lavonne was born August 30, 1927 in Valley County to Carl and Ina L. (Noyes) Desel. Lavonne was raised in North Loup, NE, graduating from North Loup High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Harry Shipman on November 28, 1951. Together they moved to a house northeast of Grand Island. Lavonne would call this home for the next 64 years until moving into Prairie Winds Assisted Living in December of 2015.
Lavonne is survived by her 3 sons: Larry Shipman of Grand Island, Timothy Shipman of Omaha, Jerry Shipman of Grand Island; her 5 grandchildren; Destiny Shipman, Jerad Shipman, Jacob Shipman, Annah Shipman, Samual Shipman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Michael, brother, Maynard Desel, and two sisters, Donna Desel and Verna McTavish.
