Obituary

Lawrence J. Scheel, 96, of Grand Island died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Grand Island Lakeview.

Lawrence was born November 25, 1918 to Herman and Minnie (Schimmer) Scheel. He received his education at District 28 School in Hall County. On August 22, 1940, he married Marjorie Blaise; making their home in Grand Island. Lawrence entered the armed services in 1943. He served in the South Pacific with the Army Air Corp 596th Signal Air Warning battalion as a forward ground observer until his honorable discharge in 1946. He returned home resuming his career as a carpenter/cabinet maker for Sothman Lumber Company, The Geer Company, and Spelts-Shultz Lumber Company.

He was a member of the Platt Duetsche, the American Legion, and Messiah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Duane and Pat Scheel of Grand Island; grandchildren and spouse: Traci and Clayton Gaunt of WY, Terri and Josh Saathoff, and Reese and Hayle all of Grand Island.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife: Marjorie; step daughter: Judy Blaise; brother: Roy Scheel; and sister: Gladys Schoel.

Funeral service will be 10:30am Monday, May 18, 2015 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Schroeder officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 4-7 pm Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
