Obituary

Leah M. Smith, 90, of Papillion, formerly of Albion, died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Midland Hospital in Papillion.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 pm Saturday, May 24th, at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in Burkett Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Albion.
Leah was born on August 27, 1923 in Belgrade, Nebraska to Ben H. and Frances M. (Watters) Rolf. She grew up and received her education in Boone County, graduating from Belgrade High School in 1941.
She was united in marriage to William "Dale" Smith on December 25, 1941 in Yuma, AZ. The couple lived in numerous places before settling near Albion in Boone County where they farmed. They later moved to Albion where she ran the Frostee Drive In for four years. She then served as the Executive Director of Harmony Homes for over 15 years.
Mrs. Smith was a past member of the United Methodist Church of Albion and a current member of St. James Methodist Church in Bellevue. She was involved in the VFW Auxiliary for many years and served as the President twice, she was a member of the United Methodist Women where she was the representative to Church Women United.
Mr. Smith preceded her in death on July 8, 1998. In 1999 Leah moved to Austin, TX where she was very active in the Foster Godparent Program until 2005. She returned to Nebraska in 2005 and lived at Monarch Villa in Papillion until her death.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn M. Theisen of Omaha and Charlotte K. Quiter of Austin, TX; five grandchildren, Terri (Rod) Schuetz, Rob Theisen, Randy (Lydia) Theisen, Michelle Quiter and Melissa (Rick) Landi-Quiter; and five great grandchildren, Lindsey, Haley, Sydney, Caleb and Seth Theisen.
She is also survived by a sister, Helen Johnston of Albion; a sister-in-law, Alice Rolf of Red Oak, IA and son-in-law, Jerry Furr.
Leah was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Harold and Lloyd Rolf, and two sons-in-law, Robert Theisen and Robert Quiter.
