Leila Nelson, 64, of Grand Island died Sunday, October 13, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. A memorial service will be 1:00 PM Friday, October 18, 2013 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark Oberbeck officiating. Inurnment will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Leila was born July 1, 1949 to Loren and Margaret (Wilmot) Berlie at Hay Springs, NE. She attended school at Blue Hill and Grand Island. Later her family moved to Grand Island.

She married Dick Nelson on December 28, 1973 at the Methodist Church in Grand Island. After they were married they settled in Grand Island. She worked at Redmen Mobile Homes until it closed, and then at Bonnavilla Homes in Aurora for 27 years. She enjoyed her job very much.
Leila enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, boating and water skiing. She loved spending time at their cabin by Harlan County Reservoir. Her indoor hobbies included crocheting and reading romance novels.

She is survived by her husband: Dick of Grand Island; son: Roland Schleichardt of Grand Island; grandchildren: Tori Schleichardt, Violet Schleichardt, Courtney Lade; sisters: Linda (Delbert) Linden of Marquette, NE, Roberta (William) Spangler of Ewing, NE, Joan (Leonard) Jurek of Bellevue, NE; mother: Margaret Karabin of Bloomington, NE; father: Loren (Geri) Berlie of Blair, NE; mother-in-law: Doris Rickus of Central City; brother-in-law: Bill (Shirley) Nelson of Lincoln, NE; numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Leila was preceded in death by her son, Randy Schleichardt in July 2010.
