Leland 'Dale' Brunt, 77, of Valley Center, CA died on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at home where he was living with his son and daughter-in-law.
Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Reverend Scott Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Central Nebraska Humane Society.
Mr. Brunt was born on July 23, 1933 in Dundy County, NE to Walter and Sarah (Young) Brunt.  He married Barbara Jean Coons on Oct 21, 1951, in Trenton, NE.
Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Dalene and Butch Dixon of Palatka, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Deb Brunt of Franklinton, N.C., and Donald and Marcia Brunt of Valley Center, Calif.; one sister, Velma Hyatt;   six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brunt and his wife lived in various Nebraska towns before settling in Grand Island 37 years ago.  Mr. Brunt worked in highway construction and drove trucks much of his life.  His last employment was doing winter snow removal for one his best friends A. J. Haller.
Mr. Brunt's favorite activities were visiting with his many 'café' and 'coffee club' friends in Grand Island, playing with his dog Max, working on old cars and just fixing things.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jean Brunt and seven siblings.
