Obituary

Leo A. Kroll, 96, of Grand Island passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at CHI Heath St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, NE.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel with Father Canela officiating.

Inurnment will be held in the Kenesaw Cemetery at Kenesaw.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Leo was born April 24, 1927 in Prosser, NE to August and Edith (Cooper) Kroll. He grew up in Prosser and attended school District #45 until 8th grade. He worked on the farm with his father. After the military he came back and worked as a mechanic for the Union Pacific Railroad for 33 years. Leo was united in marriage to Lois Hartman on Sept. 16, 1950 in Hastings, NE. To this union Mary Ann was born. He married Doris Hochstetler on Oct. 23, 1981.

He served in the United States Navy from August 21,1945 and discharged August 19,1946. He served during WWII on the destroyer ship USS Raby (DE 698). He was apart of the 7th Fleet 64 Task Force.

Leo was a member of the American Legion Post #300 in Doniphan, United Veterans Club in Grand Island, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Liederkranz.

He loved hunting deer, fishing with his grandson at sandpits, auctions (he was great at wheeling and dealing), musical tunes while traveling down the road in the motor home, being a practical jokester and driving too fast. If he received any speeding tickets, he would have to buy his wife a new furniture set. He was mechanically inclined and enjoyed making homemade bicycles with motors.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Lubken of Grand Island; grandson, Shaun (Mandy) Lubken of North Dakota; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Lois and Doris; four brothers, Peter, Earl, Gail, Bernard; two sisters, Marguerite Kroll, Lois Filkin; nephew, Tom Kroll and niece, Gale Ann Fuqua.
