Obituary

Leon O. Wilsey, 92, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Tiffany Square Care Center.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. According to his wishes Mr. Wilsey was cremated. Private family burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
Mr. Wilsey was born on June 14, 1921 at Lexington, Nebraska to Leon J. and Lela (Collins) Wilsey. He grew up and received his education in Lexington.
He entered the United States Army on September 16, 1940, serving during WWII. While on leave from the Army, Leon met his future bride, Alice Tesmer. Leon and Alice were united in marriage on April 2, 1945 at Paplin, Nebraska. He was honorably discharged on September 15, 1945.
Following his discharge the couple lived in Hastings. Leon farmed with his father-in-law before the couple moved to Grand Island where he worked for New Holland as an assembler. He retired as an overhead crane operator after 19 ½ years.  Mrs. Wilsey preceded him in death on May 4, 2002.
Leon was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Eagles Club, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed dancing, canning vegetables, making salsa and wine, and attending his children's sporting events. Leon loved music; he would spend countless hours in his music room listening and recording music. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors of the immediate family include five sons, Larry and his wife Linda of Grand Island, Lonnie and his wife Leann of Grand Island, Lyle and his wife Debbie of Waverly, NE, Leonard and his wife Patricia of Lincoln, and Lloyd and his wife Jonell of Grand Island; 12 grandchildren, Les Wilsey and his wife Bev, Lisa Suck and her husband Jeff, Lynn Wilsey, Emily Anderson and her husband Chris, Nathaniel Wilsey, Charity Schluckebier and her husband Lance, James Wilsey, Lauren Wilsey, Hayley Wilsey, Adam Wilsey, Tyler Vogt and J.T. Vogt; and 14 Great grandchildren.
He is also survived by two sisters, Ladina Beins of Spanish Forks, UT and Beverly Myers of Minden, and friend, Mary Greb.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice; a daughter, Linda Wilsey; three brothers, Fred, Harold and Eugene; and five sisters, Fern, Thelma, Elsa Lou, June and Lena.
