Obituary

Leona F. Arp, 92, of Grand Island, died Friday, March, 11, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Village in Wood River.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Friday, March 18, 2011 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Sylvia High Karlsson will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Ascera Care Hospice or the Good Samaritan Village in Wood River.
Leona was born on May 28, 1918 in on a farm near Sodtown to Clarence C. and Mary M. (Whitefoot) Urwiller. She attended school in Sodtown and Cairo.
She was united in marriage to Fred C. Arp on July 14, 1937 at York. The couple farmed east of Ravenna. They later moved to Ravenna and Leona went to work for the Ravenna School District in 1963. She retired in 1984.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, the Lydia Circle and the Pleasantview Ladies Aid. She was also active in the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed baking, playing cards and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan.
Leona is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Schlund of Grand Island; a grandson, Jeffery and his friend Jackie Finney and her children; Brad, Kelly, Lacey and Jennifer of Broken Bow; a granddaughter, Julie (Ray) Boyce of Cayman Islands and three great grandchildren; Gretchen Schlund of Rockford, IL, Zachariah Schlund of Belvadeer, IL, and Jennifer Boyce of Chandler, AZ.
She is also survived by two nieces, Susan and Nancy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Jerry Arp and a brother Darold Urwiller.
