Lorraine L. Stoltenberg, 100 of Grand Island, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Tiffany Square Care Center.
A Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, April 9 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 1515 S Harrison St. in Grand Island with Pastor Bill Pavuk officiating. Burial of ashes will be at Grand Island City Cemetery.
Lorraine was born on October 10, 1917 to Herman and Augusta (Matthiesen) Knuth in Putnam, OK and as a small child she moved to Grand Island, NE in 1922. She received her education in Grand Island, attending Wasmer and Barr Elementary and graduated from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1934.
On December 20, 1936, she married the love of her life, Wilmer H. "Jim" Stoltenberg at St. Pauls English Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They made their home in Hastings, NE until Jim's transfer to become manager of the Safeway Store in Ravenna, NE in 1943. They then moved back to Grand Island in 1968.Lorraine worked for several banks beginning with The Ravenna Bank from 1953 to 1968 when they moved back to Grand Island. She then worked for Overland National Bank for one year and then Commercial National Bank which became First Tier Bank until her retirement in 1979.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche Ladies Society. She was also the past president of the Ravenna Woman's Club. She was a Den Mother for Ravenna Cub and Boy Scouts, plus various volunteer duties.
She loved bowling, dancing and especially her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, LaVonne (Fred) Stittle of Alameda, CA; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and several step-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Barb Stoltenberg of Poway, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; sons, Master Chief Jack D. Stoltenberg U.S. N., and Jim L. Stoltenberg and wife, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Ben Palmateer; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Irene Knuth; granddaughter, Nancy Stoltenberg Bates; and son-in-law, Darrell McEntee.
