Lynn P. Mason, Jr., 90, of Grand Island passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, Nebraska.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Angie Franks will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Aseracare Hospice - Kearney.
Lynn was born July 3, 1933, at Red Oak, IA to Lynn P. Mason, Sr. & Vera (Smith) Mason. He grew up in Malvern, IA, attending and graduated from Malvern High School. Lynn attended the Methodist Church in Malvern, IA. He attended Tarkio College, where he played football for two years.
He entered the United States Marine Corp. on February 16, 1954. Lynn's time in the military was spent at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was honorably discharged on February 15, 1957, as rank of Sergeant.
Lynn was united in marriage to Violet Webb on June 30, 1956, at Glenwood, Iowa. To this union the couple was blessed with two children, Teri and Jay. For many years the family worked and raised their children in Minden, IA.
He was a hardworking man; working at Blue Star Foods, Owner/Operator of DX Gas Station in Minden, IA; Dispatcher for several trucking companies and in the parts department at the Grand Island Airport.
Lynn & Violet were married for over 50 years. Violet passed away on September 15, 2006.
He was an avid sports fan, watching numerous games of the Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs baseball, Nebraska football and in his later years he enjoyed watching college basketball. Lynn enjoyed watching reruns of Mash and Lawrence Welk and listening to music.
Lynn is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Teri & Martin Schaff of Goodyear, AZ; one son and daughter-in-law, Jay & Gail Mason of Camdenton, MO; grandchildren, Rebecca Cook, April & Anthony Algeri, Joshua Mason and Taylor Mason; great grandchildren, Connor, Alyssa and Madison; and one nephew, Mike Webb.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lynn P. & Vera Mason, Sr. and his wife, Violet Mason.
