Madonna M. Mommens, 64, of Worms, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2 pm Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms, Nebraska. Reverend Craig Niemeier will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. According to her wishes Madonna will be cremated following visitation. Burial will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in Seward, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
Mrs. Mommens was born on June 6, 1950 at Geneva, Nebraska to Albert and Evelyn (Itzen) Theer. She grew up in the Bruning and Geneva area, and graduated from Geneva High School in 1968.
Madonna was united in marriage to Paul Mommens on September 28, 1969 in Geneva. Afterwich the couple lived in Colorado, Florida and California. In 1982 they moved to Worms, Nebraska and in 1984 moved to Seward. In 2008 they returned to Worms. Madonna and Paul were blessed with three children; Timothy, Thomas and Tanya. In 2003 they adopted their two grandchildren, Helena and William.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. For seven years she was a Foster Parent and also co-owned a cleaning business in Seward. Madonna loved gardening and working in her yard. Most of all she loved caring for and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Paul Mommens of Worms; a son Thomas Mommens of Waco, Ne; a daughter, Tanya Schlamann and her husband Mark of Jansen, Ne; a daughter, Helena Mommens of Crete, Ne; and a son, William Mommens of Norfolk, NE.
She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; Matt Kline and his son, Toby, Alicia Kline, Kirsten Kline and her children, Jayden and Gracelyn, Macy Mommens, Caleb Mommens, and Myra Mommens; as well as a sister Martha Woita and her husband Ed of Liberty, Kansas, and a niece, Kristina Woita of Liberty, Kansas.
Madonna was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Timothy Mommens, a sister Margie, and a great grandson, Dante
