Marietta A. Mensik, 95, of Grand Island died Friday, May 27, 2011 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Reverend Jay Vetter will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Marietta was born on April 18, 1916 in Morse Bluff, Nebraska to Earl and Mary (Berka) Downey. She grew up in Morse Bluff and graduated from North Bend High School in 1934. Following high school she did housework for area families.
She was united in marriage to Elmer J. Mensik on March 9, 1938 in Blair, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Linwood for several years before moving to Grand Island in 1950. They lived on a farm outside Grand Island until moving in town in 1956.
Marietta loved sewing sequins on calendars and Christmas decorations for her family and friends. She also enjoyed collecting family photos and writing letters.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #340 in Morse Bluff and a past member of a Hall County Extension Club.
Marietta was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that will be missed by all that knew her.
Survivors of the immediate family include a son Jake (Sandy) Mensik of Grand Island, two daughters-in-law, Karen Mensik of Spokane, WA and Karolyn Mensik of Monument, CO.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marietta was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Robert Mensik and Dick Mensik, and two brothers, Lyle and Lloyd Blanchard.
