Obituary

Mary Lou Matzke, 87, of Grand Island, went to be with the Lord, December 28, 2014.
Visitation will be Monday, January 5, 2015 from 10-11 am at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home located at 601 N. Webb Road, Grand Island, NE.  A celebration of Mary Lou's life will follow at 11 am with lunch being served immediately after the service.  Interment will be at Plainview Cemetery located in Western, NE, later that afternoon at 4 pm.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
Mary Lou was born December 3, 1927, to Vit and Mary Kumpost of Western, NE.   On June 17, 1948, she married Clarence Matzke where they resided in Crete, NE, later moving to Hastings.  They moved to Bellevue in 1958 and after her husband's death, Mary Lou moved to Grand Island in 2007, where she resided until her death.
Mary Lou loved polka music and enjoyed dancing with her husband.  Her family was the most important thing to her.   She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's sports events and school activities.  In her last years, Mary Lou had an extended family of caregivers that she loved dearly.
She is survived by  2 daughters, Linda Arthur and husband Tom of Phoenix, AZ; Connie Makus and husband Marvin of Prescott Valley, AZ;   12 grandchildren,  Jimmy Hale and wife Suzanne of Grand Island, NE; Kenny, TJ and wife Katie, Amanda, and Emily Arthur of Phoenix, AZ;  Amanda Wilcoxen and husband Andrew of Fife Lake, MI; Benjamin Makus and wife Leah of San Clemente, CA; and Keegan Makus of Tucson, AZ;   5 great grandchildren,  Breanna Hale and fiancé Bryce Collamore of Grand Island, James and Tori Hale of Grand Island, and Levi Makus of San Clemente, CA; and a sister, Alice Kvasnicka of Tullahoma, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Clarence, her parents, five brothers and four sisters.
