Obituary

Martin P. Wiedel was born on July 9, 1948 at Fairbury, NE to Helena and Frank Wiedel. He grew up in rural Fairbury, graduating from Fairbury High School in 1966. He attended Creighton School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1972. He then moved to Grand Island and worked at the Skagway Pharmacy for 39 years. He was also a relief Pharmacist for Pamida/ShopKo Stores in Holdrege, Broken Bow and Gothenburg for almost 15 years.
He was united in marriage to Mary Jean London on September 18, 1976 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Spalding, NE, after which the couple lived in Grand Island and were blessed with five children: Karla, Erik, Kylie, Kami and Ashley.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Blessed Sacrament parish and church choir. He enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, playing cards and telling stories. Martin was an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals, Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Cubs and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Martin Paul Wiedel, 67, of Grand Island, NE died after a battle with cancer on September 24, 2015 at Saint Francis Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Karla, Kylie, Kami and Ashley; son, Erik and his wife Megan; and grandchildren, Eleanor Jane and Samuel Paul.
Those also left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Daniel (Freda) Wiedel, Virginia Wiedel, Michael Wiedel, Mary (Pat) Long and Gregory (Suzanne) Wiedel as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tony and an infant sister, Mary Cecilia Wiedel.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30AM, Monday, September 28, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Todd Philipsen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM, Sunday, September 27, 2015 with a Vigil Service following at 7:00 PM at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will take place at 3:30PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Hebron, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
