Obituary

Mary A. Brophy, 94 of Grand Island, NE, died Friday June 2, 2017 at CHI Health-St. Francis Skilled Care.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 15 at St. Mary's Cathedral. Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM with a Rosary beginning at 7 PM at Livingston-Sondrmann Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born on March 3, 1923 at Fairfax, South Dakota to John and Carrie (Young) Brophy. She was raised in O'Neill, NE and graduated from O'Neill High School. After graduating she attended nursing school at St. Francis School of Nursing, graduating in 1944. She spent her life as a nurse with many years working in the Recovery Room at St. Francis, later retiring in 1984.

Mary was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral a member of the Altar Society and the American Nurses Association. She enjoyed fixing the meals for the wild game dinners.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews and their spouses, Robert and Nancy Brophy of Scottsdale, AZ, Ann and Roy Martinsen of Meadow Grove, NE, Bernie and Randy Luebe of Elkhorn, NE, Andrea Sanford of Edmond, OK, Pat and Cindy Brophy of Mt. Vernon, ME, and Mike Brophy of Dunellon, FL; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and many other close friends and neighbors including, Bob and Linda Hoffa and their family, and Gayle Spary.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tim, John, and Matthew Brophy; and niece and nephew-in-law, Laura and Harold Andrews; and nephew-in-law, Jim Sanford.
