Obituary

Mary Lou Moorberg, 93, formerly of Grand Island passed away August 23, 2017.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 30 at St. Leo's Catholic Church with The Reverends Don Buhrman and Charles Torpey concelebrating. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Tuesday at Livingston Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary following at 7:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be given to St. Leo's Catholic Church or to AseraCare Hospice. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences and sharing of memories can be made at www.livson.com.

Mrs. Moorberg was born August 6, 1924 in Crete, NE to Louis and Mary Anna (Sedlacek) Kerst.  On August 26, 1950, she married the love of her life, Erwin Moorberg of Milford at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crete.  Mr. Moorberg passed away on November 13, 2003.

Mary Lou attended Saint James Parochial School in Crete for ten years and graduated from Crete high school in May of 1942.

She attended Doane College for one semester.From January 7, 1943 to December 31, 1947 she was employed with the FBI in Washington, D.C. as a secretary and also worked for the FBI in Omaha in 1952. She worked as a secretary at the City National Bank in Crete; at Citizens Bank in Lincoln and National Bank of Commerce in Lincoln. She was a secretary at the Wells Fargo Bank of Grand Island from November 21, 1966 until she retired as an Administrative Assistant on December 31, 1989. After retirement from the bank she worked as an Executive Secretary in the Fonner Park Office during the live racing meets from 1990 through 2012.

She was a past president of the Women's Division of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the National Association of Bank Women. She served on the Board of Directors at Fonner Park for 21 years until her retirement. She was a charter member of St. Leo's Catholic Church. She was also an 82 year member of the Crete American Legion Auxiliary #147 and a former member of the Grand Island Saddle Club.

Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters in law, Michael and Deborah Moorberg of Bloomington, IL; William and Beverly Moorberg of Keller, TX; and one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Douglas Pellatz of Plainview, NE.

Also surviving are five grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda Moorberg , Stephanie Moorberg,  Douglas Jr. and Mary Pellatz, Amy and Robert Haisch and Ethan Pellatz; great granddaughters, Harper and LoganHaisch; one sister and her husband, Josephine and Myron Jasnoch of Ogallala; sister-in-law, Jean Kerst of Greer's Ferry, AR; and numerous extended family members.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brothers, Karl and Alfred Kerst.
